WWE Video Game Finishers Used To Look Better

I used to consider that it was only nostalgia, screwing with my memory. But when we did a corresponding comparison, there was no comparison during all.
I’ve been personification WWE games for tighten to 15 years now, and nonetheless a graphics have gotten crisper and some-more picturesque (they indeed do suit constraint on a wrestlers now, to safeguard finish authenticity), a games have mislaid some of their essence and altogether excitement. Let’s take a demeanour during 5 conflicting iterations of Shawn Michaels’ Sweet Chin Music, starting with a genuine one:
Hot damn! No matter how many times we watch it, it doesn’t get old. Half a fad of a WWE finisher is a buildup before a payoff, and Mr. Wrestlemania does this masterfully, with mixed stomps that “tune adult a band.” Also notice how a WWE camera organisation frames a shot, to make it many impactful. They start with a camera in Shawn’s corner, to uncover him zeroing in. Then they switch to a conflicting camera behind JBL, so that he falls towards a player. And of course, JBL sells a strike like a champ — a flog only snatches a life out of him.
Now here’s a one from WWE 2K15:
It’s got a look, and a physique movements, and a good sell by a victim, though there’s small fad in this delivery. The camera stays during a single, immobile position. The assembly has a self-existent build of sound and activity. A integrate of flashbulbs go off when a flog hits, though not as many as what goes off in a live show. There’s no editing, no thespian cuts to make this sparkling and theatrical.
Now here’s one from Smackdown contra Raw 2008:
That’s a small some-more like it! The camera circles around to mixed angles. The assembly has a conspicuous uptick in energy. And a flog itself is replayed and slowed down in mixed cuts from mixed angles. Maybe a bit over a top, though it gets a pursuit done.
And finally, here’s one from WWE Smackdown – Here Comes The Pain:
Now that’s a correct Sweet Chin Music! Feel that electricity? The throng roars, and a sea of flashbulbs glow off spontaneously. It’s also got a shot/reverse shot angle, and Shawn mugging for a camera during a really end.
When 2K got a WWE franchise, there was a whine of service in some circles — that finally WWE would be treated like a ‘real sport.’
But there’s also a certain grade of carny theatricality to wrestling, and it would be good if 2K Games remembered that more. we don’t wish them to lift a a WWE All-Stars, that went approach over a top:
But they should put a small some-more fun in it, and stop holding it so damn seriously. Oversell a moves a bit, and make these guys a bit incomparable than life. After all, nothing of it is ‘real,’ right?
